Oh, Thursday. Why so blue.

Today seems to be dragging alot. I have been sitting at work for the last few hours and Im really not focused at all. I really dont like when things get like this, like I have lost all motivation for things. Its days like this, I feel like going home and getting into some really comfortable clothes and curling up with a blanket. It doesnt help that the weather has turned for the worst, it seems that summer is going to be a distant memory from now on, back to the windy wintery days Wellington so kindly offers. Don't get me wrong, I love this place. Its just, sometimes I wish i lived on the beach, where it was sunny and warm and calm, all the time.

Some things are keeping me excited though. I am going to a friends show tomorrow night, it will be brilliant, he is one of the most talented people that I know. I was the winner of a giveaway from Alexa's blog and I am excited to announce that I am starting a new feature on my blog. Its going to be alot of fun and include one of the things that I am most passionate about...music. So as of Monday, there will be a weekly feature here at shewaitsforwhispers... make sure you check it out and let me know what you think!

How's your week going?

A slice of paradise

There is nothing like getting out of the city for a few days (or in my case, just one day!) My friend and I took a little road trip down to Tauranga, it was a really pretty drive down the state highway, and it made me really appreciate once again how beautiful New Zealand really is. We played at the beach for a little bit, writing love notes in the sand, collecting shells, and climbing over rocks, before we set off on a treasure hunt in search of the cutest things we could find... I think its safe to say I won... look at what I stumbled across.

My dear friend Camille has just recently had her twins, they are about 10 weeks old right now, and so gorgeous. So, here it is, Welcome to the World, Christian Lee and Jaxin Dodge. Aunty Tillie loves you very very much, and cant wait to snuggle with you again soon.

I think I am in Wonderland.

To say that Tim Burton is a genius, well it doesn't really cut it. My darling friend Ruth and I went to the midnight screening of the much anticipated Alice in Wonderland film last night. And what can I say, it was brilliant. You really must go and see it for yourself!! The characters were so fun, and of course Johnny Depp did not disappoint with his kooky rendition of the Mad Hatter... mixed somewhere between some of his previous characters of Willy Wonka (Though not as creepy) and a little bit of Benny, from Benny and Joon. I just loved it. Then again I am totally bias, that man is love hot melted chocolate...delicious.

Today, is an exciting day. The real start of my 11 day holiday, and the Paramore concert is tonight. Oh man, Hayley Williams, Hello! Im excited to say the least. And I get to spend this time with my friends in auckland, and more importantly my smokin hot partner in crime RUTTTTHIE! (She's rad. thats all you need to know.)

Photo heavy blogs will be coming your way, promise! But for now, Im going to go and get ready, for an exciting day. Oh and I need to buy a toothbrush, I left my at home. Oppps.

Shake the Dust

This is for the fat girls.
This is for the little brothers.
This is for the school-yard wimps, this is for the childhood bullies who tormented them.
This is for the former prom queen, this is for the milk-crate ball players.
This is for the nighttime cereal eaters and for the retired, elderly Wal-Mart store front door greeters.
Shake the dust.
This is for the benches and the people sitting upon them,
for the bus drivers driving a million broken hymns,
for the men who have to hold down three jobs simply to hold up their children,
for the nighttime schoolers and the midnight bike riders who are trying to fly. Shake the dust.
This is for the two-year-olds who cannot be understood because they speak half-English and half-god.
Shake the dust.
For the girls with the brothers who are going crazy,
for those gym class wall flowers and the twelve-year-olds afraid of taking public showers,
for the kid who's always late to class because he forgets the combination to his lockers,
for the girl who loves somebody else.
Shake the dust.
This is for the hard men, the hard men who want to love but know that is won't come.
For the ones who are forgotten, the ones the amendments do not stand up for.
For the ones who are told to speak only when you are spoken to and then are never spoken to. Speak every time you stand so you do not forget yourself.
Do not let a moment go by that doesn't remind you that your heart beats 900 times a day and that there are enough gallons of blood to make you an ocean.
Do not settle for letting these waves settle and the dust to collect in your veins.
This is for the celibate pedophile who keeps on struggling,
for the poetry teachers and for the people who go on vacations alone.
For the sweat that drips off of Mick Jaggers' singing lips and for the shaking skirt on Tina Turner's shaking hips, for the heavens and for the hells through which Tina has lived.
This is for the tired and for the dreamers and for those families who'll never be like the Cleavers with perfectly made dinners and sons like Wally and the Beaver.
This is for the biggots,
this is for the sexists,
this is for the killers.
This is for the big house, pen-sentenced cats becoming redeemers and for the springtime that always shows up after the winters.
This? This is for you.
Make sure that by the time fisherman returns you are gone.
Because just like the days, I burn both ends and every time I write, every time I open my eyes I am cutting out a part of myself to give to you.
So shake the dust and take me with you when you do for none of this has never been for me.
All that pushes and pulls, pushes and pulls for you.
So grab this world by its clothespins and shake it out again and again and jump on top and take it for a spin and when you hop off shake it again for this is yours.
Make my words worth it, make this not just another poem that I write, not just another poem like just another night that sits heavy above us all.
Walk into it, breathe it in, let is crash through the halls of your arms at the millions of years of millions of poets coursing like blood pumping and pushing making you live, shaking the dust.
So when the world knocks at your front door, clutch the knob and open on up, running forward into its widespread greeting arms with your hands before you, fingertips trembling though they may be.

A good book has no ending

I just love books, the ability authors have to transport you to a different place, is really something else entirely. I have been reading alot lately. Finding myself picking up a book and not being able to put it down. Its so nice to be able to sit down and just soak in literature. For the last 3 years, I have found it hard to sit down, relax and just enjoy a book, always feeling guilty that I should really be reading something pertaining to my degree. But now that I am due to graduate in May and have no more classes, fiction has crept back into my daily routine, infact last night I stayed up late and read an entire novel. It was delicious.

So now I am on the hunt for new books to delight in.
Any suggestions? Books or Authors?

I think I might just go home, get myself a glass of iced ginger and lemon and start one of the paperbacks that is waiting faithfully for me on the shelf in my room.

Forward, march.

I am going away for a while
But I'll be back, don't try and follow me
'Cause I'll return as soon as possible
See I'm trying to find my place
But it might not be here where I feel safe
We all learn to make mistakes
Paramore - Misguided Ghosts

The thought of leaving what I know and stepping out into a world that is a lot bigger than I once imagined, is sitting in the back of my mind, and slowly becoming more and more prominent. It has not even been a week since my return home, and I missing travelling already. The experiences, The people, the situations. There is just so much to learn, so much to explore, so much to take in.
I have an itch in my feet.
Wellington will always be home. This place is filled with everything that is good, and some things which are better. The constant and unchanging
  • Hugs from the Heart
  • True friends who know my insides better than any other
  • Cheap wine and tacky photos
  • My Family
  • My Past. The good, the bad and the ugly.

But there is so much more than this windy little city. So much more that I will experience.

  • The endless stretches of highways
  • The coldest of winters
  • The endless summers
  • New Friends, New Memories
  • The never ending photo opportunites

And then, I guess there are the things that will always make me happy, no matter where I am in this beautiful world.

  • Good books
  • Good music
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Cold Beer in the afternoon
  • Movies on Rainy days
  • Adventures on Sunny days
  • Roadtrips
  • Chivalry
  • Love
Who knows how long it will be before I am on the road again, I suspect it won't be to far in the distant future. But for now, I will wait, happy in the place I am in right at this moment, and continue to day dream about the places I will meet, the sights I will witness and the souls I will encounter.
