Hostess with the Mostest...

Okay, so ive participated in a few package swaps now, and im thinking to myself, oh boy that was fun, Maybe I should organise one of my own... and well... Ive decided to stop putting it off, and do something about it... so... without further ado... I present to you...

Im excited. Okay. I was thinking to myself, what should be included in the swap, and, well, truth be told I just couldnt narrow it down. There are so many wonderful things which we can swap amongst each other, and really, I dont want to constrict what can and cant be sent. So with that being said, think of this as almost a 'favourite things' swap, where you get to send at least 3 of your favourite things to another lovely person and help to brighten their day!

So now you are totally excited and cant wait to join up right?

Okay, well heres what you have to do! Simply email me, my email address is shewaitsforwhispers{at}ymail{dot}com. I will send you a little questionaire thingee for you to fill out (nothing to scary! Just something for me to send your swap partner so they can get to know you a little bit!!) and then volia... sooner or later something will turn up for you in the post to just make your day.

The swap will be open until 31 May 2010... dont procrastinate... you only have 20 days to sign up! And your packages should be sent out by 10th of June. Oh yay!

Lets get as many people as possible to join in yes? Feel free to share this around! The more the merrier!!

the swap is now closed kiddies! ill be emailing out partners soon! how exciting and fun! Thanks to all you beauties who are participating. xo

Oh mum.

Dear Jenny, aka Mum.

I really cant find the right words to describe how much I love you. You are the most incredible person that I have ever met. Now, I know alot of people say this about their mum's, especially around this time of year, what with mothers day being over the weekend and all. But, honestly, you are. So, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your unconditional love and support through everything I have ever done in my life Thank you for being my personal taxi for the last 20 years, whether it be waking up early in the weekends to take me through the country to singing and dancing competitions when I was younger, coming to every netball game I played, or picking me up when I had had too many glasses of wine with my friends. You were there for every school production, every doctors appointment, every step of the way. You never missed anything. Not once. I remember when you were in London for work, and my senior prizegiving for High School was the day before you were meant to get back, you made them rearrange the schedule so you would fly in 2 hours before the ceremony and you came straight there to watch me graduate. That meant so much to me. Thank you for raising me the way you did, as a single mum I know it cant have been easy to always give me everything you did, but you found a way to not only provide for me, but give me all those extra things too.

Thank you for always being there for me, for bringing me back down to reality when I floated off into the clouds, and for picking me up and supporting me when my world didnt make sense. Thank you for your unconditional love and support and Thank you for your hugs, They really are the best hugs in the entire world. Thank you for always being the mum that I could run to when things messed up, and thank you for being the mum that all my friends loved just as much as I did. You are so cool. Really.

Thank you for accepting me for who I am, illustrated or not. Thank you for sticking up for me when other people wouldnt. Thank you for allowing me to do the things that I wanted to do, and even when you might not have agreed with them, you always supported me. I dont think I realised how much grace you have until recently. You really are incredible. Thank you for never pushing anything onto me, but guiding me and encouraging me to always do the right thing. Thank you for the lessons that you have taught me, they have changed my life.

Thank you for the sunday morning breakfasts, and late night talks. For the movies and the laughs. Thank you for the holidays and the moments when we just hang out even for a few minutes. You always brighten my day.

I love you so much mum. I am so proud of everything you have achieved. I look up to you in so many ways. You are a strong, intelligent, successful, stunningly beautiful woman. If I can be half as wonderful at being a mum as you are to me, then I know my children will be alright.

Love Natalie. aka. Daughter.

In hiding.

If only my dilemma was as pretty as those ladies. Hmm. Let me explain. Yesterday, I had a little melt down. Maybe I should rewind the clock a little bit. Yes, lets see. Im not the kind of girl who does things in halves, I never have been. I graduate from University in exactly 2 weeks, I am working 2 jobs, plus running 2 other businesses, both of which are extremely busy and demanding in themselves, and trying to maintain some kind of social life so that my friends dont forget that I am alive. My main job, and I call it that because it is my main source of income is at a wonderful organisation doing all the administration and design work for a nationwide company. Its brilliant, the people I work with are lovely, I am appreciated and accepted, and I get paid well, Its a dream. However, I have just started working a parttime job on weekends and nights. This is where things have started to get a little, well, stressful. It is at a childrens clothing store, which is great. Those of you who know me know that I love kiddies, and spend a lot of time with my younger cousins and my friends children to whom I am known as 'Aunty Tillie.' I love the atmosphere and it is easy work.

The problem comes with the restrictions on my clothing and my appearance. I have tattoos, and a small ring through my left nostril. During the interview process I was told that I would have to have my tattoos covered. Now, I guess while I dont understand this, I can accept it. I would have thought, that living in 2010, people would have moved on with the stereotypes of tattoos, and the affiliations that they have, but I guess not. My tattoos have no significant religious or cultural meaning, so therefore according to workplace standards of this particular store they must be covered. {I guess this annoys me to, a girl I work with has this big tribal Maori design that goes right up her neck - but because its Maori, she is allowed to have it on show...} So, I wear either leggings, or long pants to this job, on the days that I am rostered on. Lately, I have been pushing the boundaries and wearing stockings which are slightly see through, no one has said anything yet, but I am waiting for something to come up. Now, this would be okay, ordinarily. However yesterday I was asked to take out my nose ring because it was 'offensive.'

My first reaction was to agree with my manager and brush it off, I am not a confrontational person. However on reflection, I started to question a lot of things. Its a small, inconspicious nose ring which sits close to the skin. I have had it since 2004, infact, I remember waking up, slightly hung over after the foo fighters concert in Wellington and deciding to get it peirced, going home, and my mum commenting on how much she liked it. Now I have been asked to take it out. I already feel like I have to comprimise who I am, by covering my tattoos, and now, I have to take further steps to uniform myself. The thing is, there is nothing in my contract, so Im a little disappointed about the whole thing. I guess Im just struggling with the whole, having to change to suit other people. I love my body modifications so very much, they are as much a part of me as my Hazel eyes or the freckles on my nose. I just wish people could understand that.

I suppose I just solider on, I spoke with my mum about it, and have decided that for this particular job, I will wear a small nose stud. If anything is said about that, I am thinking that I am going to resign because Im really not willing to comprimise myself any further. Maybe its silly? Maybe I am over reacting? I dunno. Im sorry for the negativity of this post, I just really needed to get everything out. Have any of you ever felt a little out of your wits when it comes to changing for other people? Im sure Im not the only one who has been in this position. But, I guess sometimes it feels like that.

Postal Service V.1

It has been so lovely coming home most days to find little treats waiting in my letter box or on my front door, its certainly been a lovely change from the bills and the junk mail which seems to be in constant supply at the moment. So, I thought, in honour of all the darling people in my life who are sending me goodies from around the world, and so I can remember all the wonderful letters and things I have been fortunate enough to recieve, I would start to document the adventures of my postbox. So welcome to Postal Service v.1. Im not sure how often I will post these, but I photograph all the mail that I get, so, It hopefully will be more often than not!

A sweet sweet letter and some cute little buttons from Miss Yana over at The Girl From Little Eden I found her address from a penpal listing type post and fell in love with her blog, she is just oh so cute! and look at the nifty writing paper she sent me! If anyone else wants to get in on the postal action, send me a wee email, and I am sure you and I could exchange some wonderful letters, postcards, or maybe even little presents.

and a seed

Gabrielle is not only an extremely talented 19 year old art student, living, working and playing in Auckland, NZ, but is also one of my dear friends whom I adore to the ends of the earth and back. (I mean check out the photos, isnt she just the cutest!!) Her blog andaseed is filled with her incredibly wonderful creations, stunning photography and other cute little bits and pieces which inspire her, or catch her eye. Sometimes I found myself just looking at her old posts, and dreaming I was half as talented as she is.

Gabrielle takes some time out of her super busy schedule and stops in for a cup of tea and to chat about Art School, The Sims and exploring her city.

Hi my name is Gabrielle Kendall but you can call me 'Gab', 'Gabs' - anything except 'Gabby'. My blog is a place for me to keep myself motivated in my art practice. It was originally a place where I posted work from artists I admired - but I realized I too was an artist that likes to do have adventures and make little bits on the side. I take my coffee mocha, soy, extra hot please. I am inspired by design, print, painters and photographers. I'm mainly inspired by the people around me. Art school is good like that. The best thing I have learnt in the last 7 days is, you shouldn't do what anyone thinks - as long as you are happy and it feels right, that's all that should matter. In my bedroom you will find six cameras, plenty of art magazines, dirty clothes, workbooks, polaroids, pretty little pointless things. {you can have a sneak peak into Gab's room... here} My favourite smell is freshly baked homemade bread its reminds me of visiting my grandparents house and waiting excitedly for the bread maker to be ready. If i could have one super power it would be Animal Mimicry because I could swim overseas or fly to Wellington to see my momma. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a home decorator haha yeah I know - no ballerina here. I think the video game "Sims" was to blame. I believe in a few things, in which I'm still trying to figure out. On Sunday Afternoons I love to go on adventures with my boyfriend. We take our cameras and $7 usually. Walk all over Auckland exploring. The last thing I brought was cupcake silicone bases in baby pink - I'm apart of a cupcake collective :) I think everyone should know that you can't take the serious stuff to seriously all the time. The best advice my mum ever gave me was that anything good has a risk involved. Take it! My favourite thing to cook is basil pesto pasta with sundried tomatoes and Charizo. By the end of 2010 I will have finished my second year of university - ready for summer. Hello Wellington, here I come!

Take a second and jump on over to andaseed and say hello to Gabrielle. She updates her blog with new creations regularly and I am sure you will be totally inspired by it! Plus, She is just so lovely, I think her little blog deserves some attention. Go on, it will make you smile, I promise.

Me and Miss Gabrielle a little while back. Oh how sweet.

Four Seasons in one day.

Seasons are a funny thing, they bring with them change, and, well I'm not sure about you, but change for me can either be really good, or really not good. I seem to be one of those people that either needs change, to break the constant, to keep me interested, to inspire and motivate me. Or, I avoid change, because with change brings an unsettling feeling that things weren't okay all along, that I didn't have the control I thought I did, or that someone, or something no longer belongs in my life the way that they use to. The seasons have definitely changed now. Summer, is a distant memory, more distant for me I suppose, seeings as I spent 2 of my summer months in America, during their winter, experiencing not only 16 states of an amazing country, but, snowfall, friendship, history, breathtaking views and moments I will not soon forget.

So summer has left me behind, and autumn has made itself quiet comfortable. The days and nights have lost their warmth, the jackets and the scarves has been dusted off and are becoming a more frequent wardrobe choice than the cotton summer dresses. The blankets have been pulled from the shelves they so quietly sat for the past few months, and have found themselves piled onto my bed, and around my knees while I watch dvds on the couch instead of sitting outside on the loungers soaking up the rays of the sun. Not only has the weather changed, but the colour of my surroundings. The bright and fresh colours of the sun, the beach, the parks have been substituted with the browns and oranges and reds of leaves covering the ground as I walk to the store to pick up the bottle of milk needed to bake the cookies I have been thinking about.

So, as I sit here, and contemplate the change of the seasons, it leads me to think about the change I have seen in myself, and the people around me in the last little while. I guess this is a season in my life, that has made me, and I believe will continue to make me a little uncomfortable. Not uncomfortable in a bad way, just, in a different way, a way that challenges me, and a way that makes me evaluate the future. Friends, places, and ultimately dreams. I guess I will keep you posted on how that all pans out, because right now, everything is a little up in the air.
