Sometimes, songs come into your life, and you just think, wow. This is pretty much exactly what I am going through right now, or this song was written about/for me.
For a while now, I have followed Thirty Seconds to Mars. Not on a scary front, I don't subscribe to their twitter, I don't have posters of Jared Leto in my house, and I don't have any werid symbols tattooed on me professing my love for the band. {some of their fans are hardcore} But I do have a respect for the epicness that has become Jared, Shannon and Tomo.. Their music is cleverly crafted into a commercially viable sound, but they haven't strayed from where they began. And there is just something, relatable about their music I guess... even if it is on the most epic scale. I recently saw them play at a rather intimate gig at the Logan Campbell centre in Auckland. The show was wonderful. Shannon, Jared and Tomo pulled together a tight and well presented show, it was loud, abrasive, and in your face, much like the band itself. Shannon killed it on the drums, pounding the crap outta his skins. Tomo really is the glue, talented as hell and pulled it all together perfectly with his amazing riffs and rhythm Jared's voice is certainly incredible. He sang from yesterday with his acoustic guitar up the back of the venue on the sound desk {right where i was standing *sigh*} and boy, was it powerful. Yum is one word that I would certainly use. over and over again. haha.
Lately, I have felt really drawn to "Closer to the Edge" The boys newest release of their album This is War. There is something so true in the lyrics, something I guess that I am feeling more and more as each day seems to pass. I have been trying to work out exactly what it is that I get from them... and, the truth is, I'm not entirely sure. But something clicks. Something connects, and not everything has to make sense. I thought I would post the lyrics anyway.. Maybe you might like them. Or maybe you might hate them. And that's totally up to you, But this. This is me. And this makes sense.
I remember one moment, I tried to forget
I lost myself, is it better not said
Now I'm closer to the edge
It was a thousand to one
And a million to two
Time to go down in flames and I'm taking you
Closer to the edge
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day maybe we'll meet again
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day maybe we'll meet again
NO NO NO NO
Can you imagine a time when the truth ran free
The birth of a song and the death of a dream
Closer to the edge
This never ending story
Paid for with pride and fate
We all fall short of glory
LOST IN OUR FATE
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day maybe we'll meet again
No, I'm not saying I'm sorry
One day maybe we'll meet again
NO NO NO NO
NO NO NO NO
I will never forget
NO NO
I will never regret
NO NO
I WILL LIVE MY LIFE
I guess it kinda helps that all three of them are quite delicious and fun to look at too. I mean, check them out.

ReplyDeleteHi little miss Tillie! Have you recieved my Photo Swap package yet? Just checking. I have not recieved one. Love the post! :)
ReplyDeleteI even have it posted on my profile, this one statement that I stand by : "I believe that a good song can touch your soul. I believe that some of those songs were written just for me."
ReplyDeleteSo YES- I agree with you completely. And I'm a fan of Thirty Seconds to Mars, as well. <3
I adore you, pretty girl!
I am totally going to have to download this!
ReplyDeleteHey Tillie, thanks for your comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you were saying, I guess I just need to go with the flow and write about whatever takes my fancy. I can't really box myself into one category, and I don't think anyone can solely fit into one category anyway. Hopefully it's just a dip in the flow of inspiration that will soon pass!
I love it when you feel like a song was written for or about you. That's what music is all about in my opinion. God, they are delicious as well aren't they? I've heard their name thrown about a few times but never really listened to any of their music, but I'll spotify them now and check them out :) x
